3 Things My Family and I Need for the Road Ahead: An Anchor, a Flame, and a Compass

Instead of making a New Year's resolution, consider committing to a Biblical solution.

A few years ago Daniela and I drove to the Springfield, Missouri area to visit our family. It was a nice road trip. The neat thing about it was, we used an atlas nearly the whole way there! That's right, we bought a huge atlas and Daniela had it opened up as she 'guided' me from the passenger side. We made it!

For the road ahead, we need to allow God to guide us. His direction is always right. He never takes us on a crooked path or a road that leads to destruction. 

​Here are 3 things my family and I will need for the road ahead...

1. An ANCHOR - For Security
Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure...(Hebrews 6:17-19).

Our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only firm and secure anchor for our soul! Come what may, my family and I need to be firmly anchored, rooted in the principles & promises of God. Friend, have you taken hold of this hope? You can today. 

2. A FLAME - For Refinement & Purification
For You have tried us, O God; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net...We went through fire and through water, Yet You brought us out into a place of abundance (Psalm 66:10-12).

My family and I need God's refining fire. It's not easy. We've been there. But there are still impurities we need to be rid of. We need to remember that it's God doing the refining; His eyes are always on us. In the end, He will bring us to a place of abundance.

3. A COMPASS - For Direction
Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; For I trust in You; Teach me the way in which I should walk; For to You I lift up my soul (Psalm 143:8).

With lovingkindness, the Lord will lead us. We need to shut out the distractions from anything that doesn't look, sound, taste, smell, walk and act like God! From the morning, we need to look up...to the One who sends forth light and says 'This is the way.'
