Hear from God
God's normal and consistent way of speaking to us is not through prophecy, miracles, or preachers. It is through His Word. By reading it together, we are putting ourselves in a place where we can both hear God and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit. It's a vital, irreplaceable, spiritual discipline.
It Builds Intimacy
In marriage, there is emotional, spiritual and physical intimacy, all of which are connected. Spiritual intimacy is the foundation. By reading the Bible together, we are strengthening that foundation which in turn leads to a healthier and stronger physical and emotional bond.
Equipped to Serve
You can't give what you don't have. The world around you - family, friends, co-workers, etc. - they need encouragement, a word of direction, and so much more. As you read Scripture, God can use you to bless others in ways you may have not even considered.
